Roscommon Memory Cafe

Supporting people living with Dementia, their families & Carers

The monthly Roscommon Dementia Memory Cafe is aimed at providing support, advice and assistance for individuals

This event is held in a casual format with a mixture of music, song, storytelling and advice from professionals. There’s a clear emphasis on nostalgia, heritage and an opportunity to meet other families living with dementia.

Upcoming Events

A dementia friendly reading group will commencing in Boyle on Wednesday February 11th at 12 noon.  This is a relaxed group where there will be a short piece read and a discussion over a cup of tea/coffee will take place.  To book contact Teresa O’Brien on 086 029 1215.

Dementia: Understand Together – Community Champion Lite-Bite Session
Wednesday 1st October
12:30 – 1:30pm (Online)

The next Community Champion lite-bite session will explore the experiences, rights, and supports available for people caring to support a loved one with dementia. We will also cover the role of the arts in health and wellbeing and how being a part of a dementia inclusive community can play an important role in supporting people to live well within their own communities.

Dementia Awareness evening : Carrick-On-Shannon

Wednesday 1st October from 07.00-8.30pm ( in person)

A Dementia Awareness evening is taking place in Carrick-on-Shannon, Co. Leitrim on the evening of the 1st October with guest speakers, To raise awareness about dementia, inspire local communities to become more dementia-inclusive, and share practical steps for individuals, businesses, groups, and clubs to support people with dementia and their families.

When: Wednesday, 1st October, 7:00–8:30pm

This event will showcase how creativity supports brain health and cognitive function in all of us.

June Memory Café 2024

We enjoyed an excellent monthly Café in Loughkey Forest Park, Boyle, Roscommon.   Tom Doyle from the National Museum of County Life in Castlebar gave a very interesting presentation with artefacts and old objects that brought us down memory lane.  Thank you very much Tom.  To learn more about the National Museum of Country Life click: https://www.museum.ie/en-ie/museums/country-life

Website Launched

Thank you to everyone who attended the launch of our new website on Wednesday, May 11th 2022.

Special Guest Speaker at Roscommon Older Persons Network

We were delighted to welcome Alzheimer’s care campaigner Helen Rochford Brennan to Roscommon as the special guest speaker at the Annual General Meeting of the Roscommon Older persons Network on Thursday, March 31st 2022 at 1.30pm in The Percy French Hotel Strokestown.

Helen spoke to great acclaim on the day and made a lasting impression on everyone.

Actions to Date

  • Hosting of Dublin City University, Dementia Elevator Training for Community Activists and Leaders
  • Hosting 4th National Annual Living with Dementia in Rural Ireland Conference in May 2019 in King House, Boyle
  • Delivery of Seminars and presentations for those living with Dementia and their families 
  • Dementia Cafes monthly – currently running online
